Common questions about SignalTabs.
Short answers for Chrome Web Store users evaluating SignalTabs before installing.
What is SignalTabs?
SignalTabs is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a calm workspace for open tabs. It groups tabs by domain, highlights duplicates, saves useful pages for later, and helps restore recently closed items.
Does SignalTabs upload my tabs?
No. SignalTabs does not upload your open tabs, saved items, history, or page content to an external server by default. Your workspace state stays in Chrome extension storage and related browser APIs.
What happens when I close duplicate tabs?
SignalTabs keeps one copy of each duplicate URL and closes the extras. Cleanup is designed to reduce clutter without making it easy to lose every copy of a page.
What is the difference between Pinned, Saved for later, and Archive?
- Pinned: tabs you want visible in your active workspace.
- Saved for later: useful pages worth keeping but not keeping open right now.
- Archive: recently closed items that can still be restored.
Can I recover tabs after cleanup?
Yes. Closed items go to Archive and remain recoverable for the retention window selected in settings.
Does SignalTabs work across multiple Chrome windows?
Yes. SignalTabs can show tabs from all open Chrome windows and lets you jump to an existing tab by clicking its title.
Why does SignalTabs need Chrome permissions?
SignalTabs needs permissions to read open tabs, store local state, support saved items and archive restore, search bookmarks and history, and display favicons. See the privacy policy for the full breakdown.
How do I set the Spotlight search shortcut?
Open SignalTabs Settings and follow the instructions for Chrome's extension shortcuts page. If the default shortcut conflicts with another extension, choose another available shortcut in Chrome.
